Cornbread, a pioneering and unique restaurant concept developed by Adenah and her co-founder Zadie Smith, represents her first independent foray into the fast-casual dining space. Cornbread offers traditional American soul food cuisine using farm-to-table ingredients free of hormones and steroids. They source meat, fish, and produce from over 120 small-production, family-owned businesses throughout the New Jersey and Pennsylvania region, providing a true “farm to soul” experience. The first location opened in Maplewood in the fall of 2017.
The second Cornbread location opened in the winter of 2021 in downtown Newark at 915 Broad Street, an 84-unit residential and commercial building that Adenah co-developed.
The third and latest Cornbread in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, New York, opened in 2022.
